Gutters

4 Issues You Should Look Out For when It Comes To Your Gutters.

Clogged Gutters:

Clogged gutters can be the cause of some major issues. To start, if there is blockage, it can lead to water pooling because of the improper drainage. Water pooling can lead to water leaking inside your home. Another issue is insect infestations; gutters can become breeding grounds for mosquitos. Mud or leaves can invite wasp and other insect to make nests. These are only some of the issues from clogged gutters.

Breakage at The Seams:

Gutters that are clogged can collect gallons of water. With all this added weight, it can cause the gutter to bend and break, or cause them to tear away from your roof entirely. This can also increase the chances of pooling water near the foundation of your home which can result in cracks or damage to another vital part of your home.

Sagging Gutters

If you notice space between the wall and your gutters, then you have sagging gutters. There should be no space there and it usually requires immediate attention. New hangers, brackets, screws and nails maybe required to fix the issue before it really gets out of hand.

Loosened Nails and Fasteners

Depending on what gutters you have, you may use nails, or screws. Either way, your gutter takes on a lot of wear and tear over the years, the weather can cause screws and nails to loosen and rust. Most times, you can see loose spikes from the ground, so you can hammer the nails back in or screw them back with a screwdriver. However this is only a temporary fix.

Rusted gutters as well as peeling paint, are other things to keep an eye on. When rust happens, it is usually no going back, and the slow deterioration is well on its way. If you have aluminum gutters, there is some acidic pollen that can eat a bit of the coating off of them. This leaves the gutter material exposed. The same goes for peeling paint, it’s a sign that there maybe a build up of water in the area. A build up of excess moisture, is a clear sign that your gutters need a bit of love and care.
